Everything you need to know about Tuerkayana celeste, commonly known as the Christmas Island blue crab, is a member of the Gecarcinidae family and is found exclusively near freshwater sources on Christmas Island. Although it was first recorded in 1900, it wasn't recognised as a distinct species from Tuerkayana hirtipes until 2012.

This crab is widely distributed across the western Pacific, including southern Japan, Taiwan, southern China, Palau, Guam, eastern Australia, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Originally described in 1851 as Cardisoma hirtipes from specimens collected in Fiji, it was reassigned to the genus Tuerkayana in 2018 after a taxonomic revision of the Gecarcinidae family.
